Weekend Update

I started working on my MW3 show pieces this weekend...I know, I'm behind schedule, but what is new. I did get a really good jump on them though. I finished the sculpt for my 8" Hidea-a-Dunny in just over a day and I started the sculpting on the 1 off 20". Unfortunately the fastest and cheapest 20" that I could find on such short notice was this already customized piece by another artist names Ryan Bubnis. He had a Dunny in the 2-tone series but I was still able to get this Dunny for less than what most people were asking. I also finished the sculpting on the 3 newest members of the Justice League, and started painting up the first of a few Snyboras which are going to be mostly color applications. Gotta work on another show screen print tonight but as time ticks away til the MW show I doubt I will be getting much sleep.

40 Entries Reach and the Drawing has been DONE!!!!

Yesterday at the beginning of the day I had about 27 entries for the raffle...so almost to the minimum. I put out a few messages on Twitter, Facebook and the boards, and by the end of my work day I had received 13 more entries which brought us up to 40 and the final goal. I was stoked...still am. I was so excited that I just went ahead and did the drawing. What I did was write down everyones entry and gave them a number 1 through 40. Here is my original matrix.

I then went to the random number generator, selected the range from 1 to 40 and had it pick 3 numbers. Here are screen shots of the time, and the numbers that were selected.

And here is a screen shot of the images that I just posted with their time capture in the name.

So as you can see, the numbers that were drawn in order were 12, 20 and 32.

So as you can see these are our 3 winners. All of whom are active members on the Kidrobot boards. There were a number of entries from outside the boards but it was sheer luck that is came out this way.
I will be contacting everyone, not just the winners about getting you your prizes as well as something extra for everyone that participated. THANK YOU for helping to raise 800$ for the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Fight Club is Finished

I finished up the Fight club print on Saturday and I put together a special 1 off framed version of it for the show that opens tonight. I took another quote from the movie, the one that specifically referenced the Space Monkeys and put it around the edge of the frame. I think it adds a really could graphic element to it when looking at it straight on and it adds a whole different dimension when looking at it from the side where you can then begin to actually read what it says.

The frame quote says" Like a monkey ready to be shot into space. Space monkey! Ready to sacrifice himself for the greater good." This will be for sale at the show, don't have any idea if it will sell since I just started showing work here in Atlanta. If you absolutely love this I will piut it up as Not For Sale and you'll get it once the show ends. Framed piece is 130 plus shipping, is a 1 off, and is the lowest number, number 3, other than the 2 that I kept for myself.

Unframed copies are 40 shipped in a smash proof tube. First come get the lower numbers which are admittedly the better printed. I numbered them according to the quality and accuracy of the printing.

6 Color silk screen. Signed and numbered.

Email me if you're interested. Most of you know how to get a hold of me.

3rd Color

The pink wasn't as opaque as I'd hoped nor was it as Magenta as I'd hoped but I think it still looks dope. It's actually closer to the pink from the soap itself that the digital version I'd made.

Fight Club: WIP

I burned all the screens and I printed the first 2 colors last night. Thing about printing inks is there are no flesh tones at my local art store that I can purchase ready to go right out of the jar so I had to mix them myself. The first color was a light flesh tone and the 2nd was a dark flash tone. The colors don't really match the digital drawing but that really isn't all that important. It took a while but I got 2 colors that were satisfactory. I'm very happy with the registration so far I just hope I can keep it up with the rest of it.

Considering I was putting all this work into a print I decided to up the run from 10 to 20.

These are the next 2 colors. For anyone who isn't familiar with liquid emulsion and screen printing, what you're looking at is the completed stencil of the artwork I need for a single specific color. I put that blue coating over the whole screen as a liquid. Once it was dry, overnight with fans on it in complete darkness, I took my art printed on acetate and placed it on a light table with the screen above it. The lights are placed on the floor pointing up towards a piece of glass with the stencil and screen on top of it. Where ever there is art on the acetate it will block the light, and where ever there is no art, the light will cure it hard. After 8 minutes, I take the screen outside and wash it with a power washer. The areas that were blocked from the light and are still water soluble fall essentially leaving a hole where the ink can pass through. In this pic, the blue is the emulsion and the white is the screen itself so where ever it is white is where whatever color ink I choose will actually print. So the left screen is the background which is pink, and the right screen is the gray shading on the mask.

The border on the screen is for registration purposes only and represents the final edge of the print. Once everything has been printed I will trim them all to that edge and since the last color is black you should not see very much if any of the borders from the underlying colors.

Fight Club

I got a good amount of work done today and I'm currently still at my office just finishing up the design of my upcoming Fight Club Movie Poster. It's for a movie themed show here in Atlanta in just over a week and I think what I've come up with is pretty cool.... though it will be the most difficult print I've attempted to date. The registration will need to be very tight and it will be 6 colors. I just coated a couple of my screens but I have 3 that are ready so I hope to start burning tomorrow. Let me know what you guys think. As I said the other day, I will be doing a run of maybe 10 to 15 and will be printing them on my brand spanking new sheets of French Smart White 110 lb cover. This paper is gorgeous.

Some new stuff

Sorry my earlier tirade. I got a little excited. Basically anyone who visits my blog, pleas enjoy the content and please do not re-post it anywhere! Thank you.

Raffle is still underway. Need about 12 more entries to meet the minimum at which point I will give a dead line to meet the goal of 40. Can't let this go on forever.

And here are a few pics of things that I'm working on now and things to come!!

Unfortunately the cheapest 20" I could find already had someones design on it....it's getting painted over!

Gundam Samurai. Started painting this since this pic. Has custom hands so he can hold his long ass weapons at that angle.

Finally got around to starting the 2nd 3 of the Justice League. This is the beginning of Martian Man Hunter. Batman and Guy Gardener have been started as well.

Other things to start soon:

3 Muppets: Sgt. Floyd Pepper, Animal and Lips
Voldemort
Leonidas 3" Dunny
Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire
Desert Punk

Man..the list could go on.

I'm also starting a Fight Club Movie Poster that I'm gonna be printing for a show in town. I'm gonna try and make a run of 10 or so. If you're interested in 1 sight unseen, email me and I will hold one for your approval... and if you do not approve you have no obligation to buy.

Tron

I finally got around to putting my Tron posters into some frames and hanging them. I absolutely love these posters AND after some closer inspection in the dark I found out the Orange IS in fact GID it just doesn't glow nearly as bright as the blue.

Bot Factory

This past weekend I went and saw Hunger Games — pretty good. A good interpretation of the book and Amanda liked it as well. And I spent most of the weekend catching up on a large 3A project that I've been working on for quite a while while hanging out with my friend GMuri. He came over and we chatted about all kinds of toy related things from the new Circus Posterus show in Japan "Monsters and Misfits," 3A, customs, Squadts, how awesome Rotofugi and Kirby are, how we want many more Snyboras and may attempt to take that into our own hands, our day jobs and life in general. It was a great visit. And this is the only pic I took... the bot factory.

And hanging with GMuri also made me realize I need to do a custom Squadt sometime in the near future!
